New Mexico Alliance of Health Councils Primary Prevention Planning Project
The New Mexico Alliance for Health Councils (NMAHC) has initiated a project aimed at fostering community-driven strategies for Substance Use Disorder (SUD) primary prevention across New Mexico. This project will engage County and Tribal Health Councils in the creation of a comprehensive, community-oriented plan tailored to address the specific needs and priorities of their regions.
Bééhózin Consulting is managing all project activities, offering technical assistance to the Health Councils and ensuring that the project progresses smoothly. Bééhózin Consulting will conduct survey and interviews with Health Councils to gather insights into existing SUD prevention strategies, and assess each council's capacity and readiness to prioritize SUD interventions. Additionally, we are providing ongoing support and will compile a final report detailing statewide and community-specific priorities, challenges, and opportunities for SUD prevention.
Native American Public Health Americorps
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, AmeriCorps and the CDC have collaborated through Public Health AmeriCorps (PHAmeriCorps) to support the recruitment, training, and development of the next generation of public health leaders. The project focuses on developing Native American-specific training content for PHAmeriCorps and AmeriCorps members, with the aim of engaging Tribal health departments in Minnesota.
Partnering with the University of Minnesota, Bééhózin Consulting developed the theme and educational content that connects with Native American health and culture, making the learning experience relevant and engaging in three 20 minute didactic modules focusing on Native American public health knowledge. The goal of the project was to foster interest in public health among Native American high school students.
